On the eve of the star-studded spectacular Idol Gives Back, the theme for tonight’s American Idol was “inspirational songs.”
Michael Johns had another solid performance with Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” – I look for him to be in the final two.
Syesha Mercado performed former AI winner Fantasia’s “I Believe.” – I believe we may be saying goodbye to Syesha this week.
Jason Castro had his best performance since “Hallelujah” with Israel “Iz” Ka’ano’i Kamakawiwo’ole’s arrangement of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” – Wow, wow, wow! And did I say wow? Safe for another week.
Kristy Lee Cook sang Martina McBride’s “Anyway.” – Kristy Lee deserves props for her song choice. Although she has been a bit inconsistent, she is America’s “girl next door,” and tonight’s performance being one of her best, it’s a sure bet she’s safe.
David Cook’s performance of “Innocent” by Our Lady Piece was a bit of a letdown. – I have come to expect great things from David Cook, and although this was a good performance, it wasn’t great. I still think we will be seeing him in the final two.
Carly Smithson tackles Queen’s “The Show Must Go On.” – Carly took Simon’s comments about her appearance to heart and looked amazing this week. A good enough performance, but look for her to be in the bottom two this week.
David Archuleta chose Robbie Williams’ “Angels” – David sang from his heart and it showed. Teenage girls and old women adore him. I predict an all male final three.
Brooke White rounds out the evening with Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend.” – Kristy Lee may be America’s girl next door, but I maintain that Brooke is more talented. This was not her best performance, but we’ll be seeing her for a few more weeks.
