The producers of “Extra” announced Monday that Mario Lopez will be replacing Mark McGrath and Dayna Devon as the new solo host of the show.

This isn’t unfamiliar territory to the 34-year-old star, he has co-hosted the shows weekend edition since January 2007 and served as a correspondent for the syndicated entertainment news magazine.

Extra” senior executive producer, Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey, thinks Mario will be a perfect host and claims he is a “rising star with a winning personality both on- and off-camera.”

Former hosts McGrath and Devon still have a lot on their plates as well . Devon, who has been with the show since 1999, will be doing celebrity interviews, “celebrity lifestyle” stories, and will serve as the substitute host for Lopez. McGrath actually asked to be released from his contract to focus on his band, Sugar Ray, which is recording a new album.
