Carolina Panthers’ Steve Smith and Ken Lucas Fight at Practice

Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith was sent home from training camp Friday after punching teammate Ken Lucas in the face.

After the altercation Lucas, a starting cornerback for the Panthers,  was carted off to the locker room holding an icepack to his left eye.

Panthers coach John Fox said Smith and Lucas returned to Charlotte from training camp, which is in Spartanburg, South Carolina, after the fight. Neither player attended the Panthers’ second practice Friday night.

A three-time Pro Bowl pick, Smith has a history of losing his temper. He was suspended for a game in 2002 after punching teammate Anthony Bright during a team film session.  Smith participated in counseling for anger management.

Later in practice Smith reached out to Lucas to apologize and teammates reported the star receiver was remorseful.
