Willie Aames Opens Up About Suicide Attempt
Former child star, Willie Aames, 48, opens up about his Thanksgiving Day suicide attempt after filing bankruptcy, having his car repossessed and his wife of 22 years, Mayla Upton, asking for a divorce.
Aames, who stared in Eight is Enough and Charles in Charge, had been sober for 20 years when he left his Kansas home depressed. He then rented a room in Los Angeles from a friend, stealing a bottle of Jack Daniels.
The actor was taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication when he put a knife to his throat and cut himself in six places.
Willie was taken to the USC psych ward in L.A. where a doctor told him that “most people were there because they’d either lost a job, a family member or relocated,” Aames tells Star magazine, “I was there for all of those.”
Aames has been trying to get his life back on track since the suicide attempt last year.

This is really sad.
I have very fond memories of Willie Aames (and Scott Baio) in the TV series “Charles in Charge” and the film “Zapped !”. I sincerely hope that he gets his life back on track in 2009.
Scott — your old buddy really needs you. Give me a call, I am sure he would welcome your support.
