Will Ferrell Man vs Wild

Last night on the Discovery Channel was a huge moment on Man vs. Wild as Will Ferrell performed stunts in Northern Sweden to promote his new movie Land of the Lost.

Land of the Lost features Ferrell as Dr. Rick Marshall, a scientist who is sucked into a space-time vortex and encounters dinosaurs as well as many other creatures.

In the first scene of the Man vs. Wild episode, Ferrell is lowered from a helicopter by rope, shouting for his “mommy”. When he landed safely on the ground, he began hiking through the waist-high snow. Later on, he stays with Bear Grylls in a cave, making meals out of  reindeer eyeballs from the head of the dead animal. After being asked what they tasted like, he replies, “It’s like a gelatinous piece of rock”.

Previously, Ferrell had run three marathons, but he was not too keen about the idea of the show in the beginning. Ferrell mentioned how not many actors would actually pull these stunts. He soon decided after watching a previous episode that this adventure would be “too crazy to say no to.”

The comedy had not all disappeared though. For instance, Ferrell waited until Grylls had turned his back to eat the “emergency only” Twinkie. He even said at times he was too exhausted to think about comedy, “There were times when I thought, ‘I’m too tired to be funny right now. I’m too tired to be cold’”.

The men braved the subzero temperatures together for 48 hours, Ferrell complaining, “I don’t even like camping”, while Grylls reminds viewers about the danger of the stunts and conditions. Ferrell does admit to never feeling in danger, although the duo climbed a frozen 100-foot waterfall.

The hardest thing to do, according to Ferrell, was at the end of the adventure when he had to climb a rope-ladder to get into the helicopter. Ferrell explains, “You had to use all your arm strength to get up. By the time I clipped in, I totally let go and was hanging upside down and laughing at myself, wondering what this was going to look like. But we figured it out and the next thing I knew I was flying 600 feet in the air, hanging out of a helicopter. It was kind of insane.” Luckily, Discovery’s first celebrity appearance did not end in a headline-seeking disaster.

Who will we see brave the conditions next?
