Usher Files For Divorce From Tameka Raymond
Usher, 30, has officially filed for divorce from his wife of nearly two years, 38-year-old Tameka Foster-Raymond. There have been many rumors flying around recently and now they seem to no longer be rumors.
The first time these rumors surfacedwas more than a year ago but they were quickly distinguished by Usher’s old manager.
In February, Tameka was sent to the hospital for cardiac arrest and then shortly after having a liposuction procedure in Brazil.Many said that this was the first sign of a separation between the couple.
After Usher learned of Tameka’s condition, he canceled his show at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy gala to be with his wife.
The couple married in 2007, having a small ceremony in August in Usher’s lawyer’s office and then another ceremony for around 200 people at the Chateau Elan Winery and Resort in Atlanta, Georgia. Presently, the couple have two sons, December-born Naviyd Ely and 18-month-old Usher Raymond V.
In a May 2008 TRL appearance, Usher took a moment to talk about the recent gossip that has been flying around, “My wife is not 40 years old. I love her to death and I’m a black, strong man in America standing up for my people — as a man to my wife, to my son, to my family. I’m making a stand that a lot of us should make. I coulda been like any other man who has a child and live with that woman and continue to just play the game. … I’m trying to do it the right way. This is the way you’re supposed to do it! Pay attention, fellas.”
On Valentine’s Day of 2008, I was giving out flowers at Lenox Mall and met Usher while he was buying placemats or other kitchenware for his wife. Apparently everything was fine at that point in time. Who knows what happens when the public is behind closed doors.
As for the divorce, the hearing is set to be on July 15, according to the Fulton County-filed petition. This petition said nothing about a reason for the divorce.
