Johnny Depp posed as his infamous character Jack Sparrow on Wednesday and visited London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in costume.

The kids, of course, loved it. A source at the hospital comments on the visit, saying, “Johnny was so friendly with all the children… they absolutely loved his pirate outfit. He spoke to lots of the youngsters and staff – and made their day by posing for pictures with them all.”

Depp was in town promoting his latest movie, Public Enemies, where he stars opposite Marion Cotillard. Why he chose Ormond Street Hospital? Well, his ten-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose, had a health scare in 2007 and they looked after her for him.

In January, Depp donated £1 million to the hospital for helping his family out. His wife, Vanessa Paradis, spent nearly 10 days in the same hospital last spring after she contracted E. Coli poisoning, leading to kidney failure.

Depp reveals his feelings on the experience, “It was the most frightening thing we’ve ever been through. But the magic is that she pulled through beautifully. Great Ormond Street was terrific. A great hospital.”

Pirates 4 is still under wraps and in development so we arent really sure what to expect from the latest and greatest.

At least we know that Johnny wholeheartedly approves of the hospital. As some know, The Great Ormond Street Hospital specializes in complex, life-threatening conditions. In one year, it regularly treats 150,000 patients. Sometimes, however, the hospital has to rely on public donations for their on-going treatment if the government funding falls through.

Depp has praised the work the hospital did to help Lily-Rose and his wife and many other children that are treated there.
