Jesse McCartney Botches the ‘Star Spangled Banner’
Jesse McCartney sang the Star-Spangled Banner Sunday at NASCAR’s Sprint Cup race in Fontana, CA but the pop singer skipped a verse – or two, and sang a bit off-key.
McCartney posted the following on Twitter prior to his less-than-stellar performance:
First Nascar race! Singin’ the Anthem today! I’ll be the guy with yellow earplugs! LOUD!!!!
On my way to Auto Club spdwy for NASCAR. Getting ready to sing the National Anthem. 12pm PST on ABC.
After the performance that generated some serious critism on Twitter ranging from “epic fail” to “idiot” and “moron,” McCartney posted this:
Here At the Nascar race !So much fun! Can’t believe I forgot the words to the Anthem! I’ve performed it 100 times. Bad Nerves today I guess
Props to Jesse for keeping his cool and at least finishing the national anthem.

He may have skipped a few verses, which is understandable if he was nervous, but I think he has a beautiful voice. I’ve heard of Jesse McCartney before of course, but I’ve never heard him sing until watching the video you posted.
