TLC Sues Jon Gosselin for Breach of Contract
TLC has filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Jon Gosselin accusing the Jon and Kate Plus 8 star of violating his contract by making paid and unpaid TV appearances without the cable network’s permission.
The suit filed Friday in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, Maryland alleges that the former reality show dad is “in violation of his contractual exclusivity” and has “entered a lucrative arrangement to appear regularly on Entertainment Tonight and its companion show The Insider to discuss his family and the problems he was having with Mrs. Gosselin.
TLC also alleges that Jon has “sold photographic rights to numerous media outlets” and “has accepted payments to endorse products and services,” such as a pool party hosting gig in August at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The suit seeks unspecified compensatory damages and demands that Gosselin return income gained as a result of his alleged breaches of the agreement, as well as to refrain from future violations.
“The network has been trying privately and patiently for months to get Jon to honor the contract he signed and to comply with his obligations relating to public appearances and statements,” said TLC in a statement on Friday. “Those efforts have been unsuccessful.”
A statement from Gosselin’s attorney, Mark Jay Heller, called the allegations “weak, feeble and baseless,” and the contract “unenforceable and unconscionable.”
